I may not have gotten the summer blockbuster at the movies I was hoping for, but I ended up getting the “strip club anthem” on the radio I didn’t know I needed. Proclaimed as such by Yo Gotti, produced by Mike WiLL Made-It and 30 Roc, and featuring Nicki Minaj, “Rake It Up” went from the track I’d only heard the chorus of to the track I can’t get enough of.
The leading single from Yo Gotti and Mike WiLL Made-It’s collaboration album Gotti Made-It, the track samples the Too Short classic “Freaky Tales” and speeds it up for a summer dance jam made for a younger generation. The track even inspired a #RakeItUpChallenge that swept social media platforms and a series of choreo clips that QUICKLY went viral.
After waiting months for the music video, I’ve gotta say the visual wasn’t at all what I was expecting. A bit disappointed, I’m more of a fan of the unique choreography videos that came from this hit’s popularity. Regardless, this Yo Gotti and Nicki Minaj collab will stay in rotation and on repeat — through the official start of fall, at least.
What summer songs are you still jamming on repeat? Let me know in the comments!
