Around My Way: Atlanta’s Little Five Points

July 6, 2017September 4, 2017

When I first came to Little Five Points with friends five years ago, I felt something indescribable before I even stepped foot out of the car. Something about the marked up sign posts, colorful storefronts, and casually artful feel of the neighborhood made me instantly connect with this little sector of such a large city.

In the years since my first visit, I’ve spent countless hours — and countless dollars — at the businesses that line the blocks of L5P.

From Instaceleb sightings in Wish Atlanta and my favorite slice of pizza with pineapple at Village Coffee House to hunting for the perfect unique accessories and ever-elusive size 13’s at The Clothing Warehouse, Rag-O-Rama, and Junkman’s Daughter, the little area off Moreland Avenue has become a sort of second home.

As much as I love to spend a Sunday afternoon walking around Lenox Mall or even a quick trip to Atlantic Station when I find myself in Atlanta, no trip ever feels complete unless I make my way to L5P.

The show originally developed as a spinoff of The Cosby Show chronicling the college years of my favorite Huxtable, Denise, at fictional Hillman College has since turned into something so much greater — a irreplaceable sitcom celebration of Black culture that’s stood the test of time.
