Maybe it’s the notable sample of an R&B classic. Maybe it’s the overall fun vibe of the track. Maybe because it’s Vivian Green. Whatever my reason for loving “Get Right Back To My Baby”, it’s practically been on repeat since I first downloaded it.
The first single from Green’s 2015 Vivid album, the track samples the 1981 cookout/HBCU homecoming/wedding/any occasion jam “Before I Let Go” by the incomparable Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly — perfectly blending Green’s contemporary R&B vocals with the timeless sound Beverly and the band made famous.
With its infectious groove that makes you want to dance, it doesn’t matter where I am or what I’m doing. Whether I’m stuck at my desk or stuck in rush hour traffic, Vivian Green’s urgent ode to spending quality time with her man instantly ends up on repeat whenever it comes on.
