The Sound of Summer

June 21, 2017September 4, 2017

Summer is officially here — the time for making memories, having fun, and living life any way you can. Coincidentally, it seems that every year when the weather gets hot, a song (or two) comes along, adding to the soundtrack of our lives while forever encapsulating the feeling, the style, and the vibe of that one summer.

Speaking of which, it’s been 14 years since Beyoncé’s debut solo single “Crazy in Love” hit number one on the Billboard charts and set the summer of 2003 ablaze while cementing the fact that Beyoncé would be one artist to definitely keep an eye on. Remember how it had listeners, celebrities, and even your mom trying to do that damn dance?

Music’s come quite a way since then and no matter how much it evolves or shifts, the prevalence of the summer jam remains constant.

Check out some of the most memorable summer jams that owned the airwaves through the years.

1992: SWV – Weak

1998: Brandy & Monica – The Boy Is Mine

2001: Usher – U Remind Me

2002: Nelly – Hot in Herre

2006: Nelly Furtado featuring Timbaland – Promiscuous

2007: Rihanna – Umbrella

2011: Gotye feat Kimbra – Somebody That I Used to Know

2013: Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell and T.I. – Blurred Lines

2014: Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX – Fancy

2015: Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar – Bad Blood

2016: Drake featuring WizKid & Kyla – One Dance

What summer jam(s) are you still listening to in 2017? What new smash will claim the “Song of Summer ’17” title? Let me know your thoughts and predictions down in the comments.
