The Case For Doing It Anyway

August 11, 2017September 4, 2017

“In any area of your life that you wanna change…any…there’s one fact that you need to know…just one: You’re never going to feel like it. Ever.” – Mel Robbins

In her 2011 TED Talk “How To Stop Screwing Yourself Over” , criminal lawyer and career and relationship expert Mel Robbins touches on the inner activation energy and motivation it takes to get the things you want out of life.

With all that’s going on in the world today and all that we face in our personal lives on a daily basis, it’s incredibly easy to fall victim to feelings of despair, complacency, comfort, and fear. It’s also equally as easy — if not easier — to allow our goals and dreams to take a backseat to that nap, that Netflix binge, or that feeling of just not feeling like it.

As Robbins tells us, the truth remains that we’re never going to FEEL like doing the things we need to do in life. Even with the benefit of extra free time, resources, and support, it is still up to each of us to look and push past how we feel to get the things done that get us closer to doing and being better versions of ourselves.

How could “doing it anyway” make a difference in your daily life? What goals, hopes, dreams, or changes would benefit from you pushing past how you feel to get what you want?

Patience: The Learned Virtue

August 31, 2017October 13, 2024

When I first moved to what I refer to as the Upper South, I asked God for patience to help me cope with and conquer life outside of the Sunshine State. What I got was not only the line at the bank author Tracy McMillan talks about, but lines (complete with screaming children) at the grocery store, businesses with roughly estimated hours of operation, innumerable “You’re not from here?” stares and remarks, and a consistent reminder that patience — for me, at least — is a learned virtue.

A Love Letter to the 2000 BMW X5

April 6, 2024October 13, 2024

At 13, nothing at the start of the new millennium screamed “status” to me more than the 2000 BMW E53 X5. All these years later, I still can’t shake the thing I have for BMW’s first yet thoughtful foray into sport-utility territory.
