The older I get, the more I appreciate the importance of breathing space. Back in Florida with some free time to spare a few months ago, I decided to hit one of my favorite childhood beaches to spend some time alone in front of the waves.
Spending just half an hour at the beach that morning not only gave me a chance to breathe deep and relax, but slowing down the flow of my day allowed me to truly be present in that moment. To feel the shells and sand under my feet. To hear the sound of the waves gurgling at my ankles.
With all life — especially adulting — throws at us, finding breathing space is imperative, even if it’s just five minutes between meetings or during your lunch break. The space and time to just be is often as energizing and restorative as it is freeing. I may not get to hit the beach all that often, but I find breathing space and time to slow down whenever and however I can.
Where do you find breathing space? How do you make time to slow down the hectic pace of your life?
